Beautiful view of Merano

Sunken church towers, tragic love stories, and in between, spectacular nature, Mediterranean towns, and warm South Tyrolean hospitality. You’ll cycle gently downhill from Lake Resia toward the shimmering Lake Garda, which you’ll also get to explore by boat. From there, it’s not far to your final destination—Verona, the city of tragedy and romance. Along the way, you’ll discover South Tyrol in all its facets—through blooming orchards, rolling vineyards, and charming villages shaped by both Italian and Austrian influences. Each stage brings a new, even more beautiful and culturally vibrant destination. After eight days, saying “Grazie e ci vediamo, Italia” will be anything but easy!

When Germany gradually changes into Italy you have arrived in the ‘real’ South Tyrol. Take the bike along the Adige to Silandro, Merano, Bolzano, Trento and Riva Over. These towns are definitely worth a pit stop. There are plenty of freshly harvested fruit and vegetables there. Once you’ve arrived in Verona, it’s time to put your feet up. After a short break, the search for the best ‘gelato’ commences. Tipp: Try a daring ice cream flavour. How about fig caramel in ice cream parlour Gelateria Ballini on Piazza San Tomaso? Tuck in and enjoy!

  • Colourful sea of flowers: Depending on the season, northern Italy shines in colourful floral splendour. Pink, white and pale yellow blooms ooze their beguiling fragrance. Take a whiff for yourself!
  • Messner Mountain Museum: In South Tyrol, the Museum in Bolzano has dedicated itself entirely to the man from the ice. Learn about the Stone Age and the mystery surrounding Ötzi.
  • Experience ‘Amore mio’ in Verona: Experience the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliette during an interactive city tour.

Beautiful cycle paths along the Adige await you. Cycle across few gradients and almost continually asphalted paths through picturesque towns. Those cyclists who enjoy riding downhill will also be pleased: from the Resia pass to Lake Garda, the route continues for 1500 metres down the valley. But please – remember to break!

On our ‘Cycle Tours with Charm’ you can enjoy the full service of our individual active holidays while staying in very special accommodation with that extra something in the best location. That means you can look forward to luxury furnishings and decor in the local style, as well as cuisine at the highest level. Many of our hotels with charm also offer large pools and a wellness area where you can relax after a lovely day of cycling.

Arrival in Resia/San Valentino

Today you will cycle alongside Lake Resia with a great view of the sunken church of Graun until you reach the medieval village of Glurns wit its perfectly preserved medieval city walls. Your destination is Silandro, the capital of the famous Venosta valley.

Castles and palaces the most famous of which is Juval Castle, owned by mountaineer Reinhold Messner lie along or high above the route. Enjoy views of the impressive Ortler massif, and the Stelvio Pass as you cycle down to tranquil Merano with its Mediterranean vegetation.

Two paths lead to Bolzano: One along the Adige River and another through the impressive landscape of orchards via Lana and Appiano. Here you can find the Messner Mountain Museum in the well-restored ruin of Sigmundskron. Ötzi – the man from the ice – is worth a visit.

You will mainly cycle along the river Adige and partly through orchards to Salorno, where the German speaking South Tyrol ends. From here, you will continue to Trento with its interesting old town.

First, you will continue cycling along the Adige through Rovereto and on to Mori from where the route leads westwards towards Lake Garda. In Mori you will taste the world famous pistachio ice-cream in the Gelateria Bologna or a freshly squeezed fruit juice. After a short ascent (Passo San Giovanni), you will descend down to the lake and to Torbole and further on to Riva. From here, a boat will take you down the entire length of the lake.

You will travel on partly flat, partly slightly hilly roads through the vine hills to Verona, a city full of attractions. Visit the festival arena, the house of Julia and the old city walls.

Itinerary at a glance

Before Verona greets you with the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet and the charming Piazza delle Erbe, you’ll cycle through Merano, Bolzano, and Trento. Merano enchants with its Mediterranean vegetation, Bolzano is home to Ötzi the Iceman, and in Trento, you’ll admire the historic cathedral. Orchards and vineyards shape the South Tyrolean landscape, while Lake Garda radiates its own unique charm.

Arrive in South Tyrol at a relaxed pace and enjoy a peaceful stroll to take in the breathtaking Alpine views to gather energy for the days ahead. In the evening, you’ll receive a personalized tour briefing along with your bike handover.

You’ll start your first stage cycling along Lake Reschen, taking in views of the sunken church tower in Graun. From there, you’ll pass through the medieval town of Glurns, famed for its perfectly preserved city walls, before arriving in Schlanders, the vibrant heart of the Vinschgau Valley.

Castles and fortresses—most notably Juval Castle, once home to mountaineer Reinhold Messner—dot the route, perched along or towering above your path. As you cycle, take in breathtaking views of the impressive Ortler massif and the Stelvio Pass. With some easy pedaling, you’ll then glide down into the tranquil town of Merano, where Mediterranean vegetation lends a charming atmosphere.

Two route options lead to Bolzano: one follows the Etsch River, while the more scenic path winds through orchards via Lana and Eppan. A highlight of the day is the well-restored Sigmundskron Castle, home to the Messner Mountain Museum. Upon arrival in Bolzano, you can soak up the lively city atmosphere, and visiting Ötzi, the Iceman, is a memorable experience.

Lovely bike paths guide you along the Etsch River, winding through expansive orchards. Salurn is a perfect spot to pause and marks the end of German-speaking South Tyrol. From there, you’ll continue on to Trento, known for its historic old town, featuring highlights like the cathedral and Castello del Buonconsiglio.

Continue along the Etsch River to Rovereto, then head west toward Lake Garda. In Mori, don’t miss the chance to savor the famous pistachio ice cream at Gelateria Bologna or refresh yourself with a freshly pressed fruit juice. After a short climb over Passo San Giovanni, enjoy a descent down to the lake at Torbole. In Riva, a boat awaits to take you along the full length of the lake—a perfect way to end the day!

The final stage takes you through gently rolling vineyards, partly flat, as you make your way to Verona. This beautiful city is rich with sights—be sure to visit the Arena, Juliet’s House, and the ancient city walls.
