From the glamorous winter sports town to the fashion metropolis
This unique route takes you by bike from Switzerland to Italy, from the Alps to Milan, past Lake Como. From the "Sentiero Valtellina", the cycle path that crosses the Valtellina valley to Colico, you have a marvellous view of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. Another experience is the boat that takes you to Bellagio, where you can enjoy the lake before reaching Lecco. From here you cycle along the River Adda towards Vaprio D'Adda, on the border between the provinces of Milan and Bergamo. After leaving the river Adda, you continue along the cycle path of the Martesana Canal. Along the way, you will see old power stations, the first to supply the city of Milan with electricity. The genius Leonardo da Vinci is said to have designed part of this canal. The landscape that accompanies you in Milan is a little unexpected and characterised by farmhouses, magnificent villas, old country houses and villages surrounded by landscaped gardens.
You cycle mainly on cycle paths and low-traffic side roads, sometimes on good gravel paths. You can expect to encounter more traffic when entering and leaving the city. The route always tends to be slightly downhill, but every now and then there is a small incline to contend with.
