Sustainability report 2

Our second update of July 2024

With our regular sustainability messages, we would like to give you an insight into our progress, initiatives and goals in the area of environmental and social responsibility. Together with our partners and customers, we strive to create sustainable travel experiences that both protect the environment and strengthen local communities. Let's embark on a journey together towards a more sustainable future. Here you can read the first sustainability report again!

Basically, choosing a cycling or hiking holiday is already a good way to become more climate conscious. Nevertheless, we always have new ideas on how you can be even more sustainable along the way.

our projects

Bicycle tube recycling

We also attach great importance to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices with our Eurobike bikes. One example of this is our recycling programme for bicycle inner tubes, in which our Donau and Obertrum stations already participate. Thanks to the dedicated work of our employees from the organisation team, who diligently collect old inner tubes, we can send them to Schwalbe from a quantity of around 100 tubes, where they can be 100% recycled. In this way, we avoid throwing away broken inner tubes unnecessarily and thus producing more waste. We are already looking forward to testing this system in the colder months, when all our bikes are serviced and therefore generate the most inner tubes.

How we wash our bikes sustainably

Another of our sustainability initiatives is the Velobrush bike wash at the Station Donau site. Between 6,000 and 7,000 bicycles are washed here every season. The special feature of the facility is that it has a water basin with a filter system and waste water treatment, which significantly reduces water consumption. In addition, only biological cleaning agents are used, which both protect the environment and improve the care of the rims - and this leads to less wear and tear on the brakes. Our innovative washing system not only makes work much easier for our team on site, but also contributes to a better service for our customers.

Eurofun marketplace on site

What's going on in the Eurofun team in Obertrum? The new Eurofun marketplace has recently opened! From now on, our employees have the opportunity to give away, swap or sell used items such as clothing, electrical appliances and much more. In this way, well-preserved items find a second home and employees have the opportunity to obtain useful items at a favourable price - and waste is avoided!

Forming carpools

The Pave Commute carpooling app has been available to our employees for a few weeks now. This app is not only ideal for carpooling, but also perfect for organising joint cycling groups. By using the app, we can reduce CO2 emissions, minimise traffic congestion and make a positive contribution to environmental protection. The app also promotes team spirit and enables our employees to organise their commute to work in a more efficient and environmentally friendly way.

Hiking challenge

We have launched a walking challenge for all Eurofun employees, which not only motivates us to be more active, but also supports a charitable cause: For every kilometre walked, we donate EUR 2 to the ‘Kinder haben Zukunft’ association, which supports families living in poverty. This initiative combines health promotion with social commitment and offers a great opportunity to make a positive difference together.

Our path to certification

We select accommodation for our guests very carefully and deliberately - which is why we also want to motivate our partner accommodation providers to make a commitment to sustainability. One way of doing this is to ask our partner hotels about the steps they have already taken towards sustainability in our hotel contracts: Is there already a certification? Are there any other sustainability campaigns? The information we receive is then also the basis for more sustainable holidays at Eurofun and a further step in our certification with Travelife.
