Arrival to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania for more than 600 years. At 7 p.m. welcome meeting at the hotel with your tour guide. Overnight in hotel Tilto 3***.

After breakfast you’ll take part in a guided tour of Vilnius Old Town. In the afternoon  transfer of about 30 minutes to Trakai. We cycle along Lake Galva and soon reach the Gothic Trakai Island Castle. It was primarily used by Lithuanian grand dukes in the 15th and 16th centuries for state receptions and important festivities. After visiting this imposing and wonderfully situated edifice, a completely unspoiled landscape awaits us. On the way to Semeliskes our route leads along wooded stretches, past lakes and lonely farms while the small town itself offers gaily painted traditional Lithuanian wooden houses. A bus takes us in one hour to Kaunas, the former capital.

In the morning transfer along the river Memel/Nemunas to the coast. Situated on the river are the castles of Raudone and Panemune dating back to the 16th and 17th century. In the afternoon cycling tour to the renowned Vente Horn with ornithological station and lighthouse (19th century) located in the Memel river delta. After a short bus ride you arrive in Klaipeda (Memel town), the only harbour town in Lithuania.

The boat trip in the morning across the Curonian Lagoon to Nida offers you views onto the impressive dunes of the Curonian Spit. Sightseeing around Nida, one of the most beautiful beach resorts of Lithuania. In the afternoon you enjoy a bike tour along the coastal cycle path along the Curonian Spit, well-known for its amber and stunning sandy beaches. On the route to Klaipėda you have the possibility to swim in the Baltic Sea.

In the morning journey to Palanga through the Seaside Regional park, a former Soviet military no-go zone. Arrival in Palanga, the largest beach resort in Lithuania. The tour includes a visit to the botanical gardens with the amber museum in Palanga, located in the former palace of count Tyszkiewitcz. The museum houses over 25 000 pieces of amber and 15 000 pieces of amber with insect inclusions. In the afternoon transfer to Riga (Latvia). Along the way you stop at the ‚Hill of Crosses’, a memorable mystical place, featuring thousands of crosses. You continue to Riga, the capital of Latvia.

Breakfast is followed by a guided tour of the medieval hansa town of Riga, best-known for its art nouveau buildings. The afternoon is at your own disposal and can either be spent on further exploration or a cycling tour to Jurmala, the largest coastal resort in the Baltics, renowned for its endless white beaches, healing mud and natural mineral water. Transfer back to the hotel in Riga.

In the morning transfer to Sigulda, a popular holiday resort in Latvia, located in the Gauja river valley. Along today’s bike tour through the Gauja Nationalpark to Saulkrasti you discover Turaida castle as well as the church in Krimulda – the oldest church in Latvia (built in 1205) and enjoy views onto the Gauja river valley with the Gutmann-cave. The cycling tour ends with the bicycle museum in Saulkrasti.

In the morning transfer to the largest Estonian island Saaremaa, where the best of old Estonia got preserved: Saaremaa is the perfect cycling terrain with very little traffic and even roads. You cycle on picturesque roads along the Baltic coast to the village Angla, famous for its windmills. Transfer to Mandjala.

Enjoy the wild beauty of Sõrve peninsula during a daytrip all the way to the lighthouse. Located between the southern tip of the peninsula and the Latvian mainland is the ‚Irben Strait’, the most important shipping lane from the bay of Riga into the Baltic Sea. Transfer back to the hotel.

Enjoy a tour in the morning to Kuressaare, the capital of Saaremaa. There you have plenty of time to explore the town and the episcopacy castle dating back to the 13th century and one of the best preserved medieval castles in the Baltic. Afterwards bus journey to Tallinn. En route you stop at the Kaali meteorite crater, a rare miracle of nature in Estonia. In the afternoon arrival in Tallinn, followed by a guided tour of the old town of Tallinn. Common farewell dinner in a restaurant!

Tour character

This trip is mostly on calm side roads and cycle paths with daily cycling stages between 25 and 55 km. The terrain is varying, and especially in the Gauja river valley and in the Otepää region there are some hilly parts. Otherwise the tour is mostly flat!

Sehenswerte Tour

Excellent guided tour with a good balance between cycling and bus touring
This guided tour of the Baltic States was as thorough as could possibly be in 11 days. The cycling locations were delightful through quiet country side, forests and seaside, the unsealed parts challenging for some in the group but guides kept it structured; the bus travel was good with informative commentary; accommodation good - altho with the Soccer world cup a little noisier in some places than would normally be - and the local guides in each of the capital cities were informative and entertaining.
