East Frisian Cycling Adventure: Borkum, Norderney, Langeoog

8 Days / 7 Nights
Easy
A cyclist rides along the dyke with a flock of sheep around the cycle path

Experience natural beauty, serene tranquility, and a maritime atmosphere: the East Frisian Islands in the North Sea sparkle with their boundless natural charm, quaint villages, and the warmth of their inhabitants. Over eight leisurely days of cycling, explore Borkum, Norderney, and Langeoog, each island revealing its unique character. What unites them all is the refreshing sea breeze and the allure of the Wadden Sea. Pack windproof clothing and join us in East Frisia!

Your cycling adventure begins in Emden, birthplace of Otto Waalkes. Explore the port and unwind at one of the charming pubs. The following day, embark on a ferry journey to Borkum, where whalers and pirates once roamed. Trace their footsteps through history and relax on the island's beautiful beaches. Returning to Emden, your route heads north, passing the picturesque town of Greetsiel with its renowned shrimp cutter harbor and the Leybucht bay.

During your excursion to Norderney, you'll encounter herds of sheep and windmills in the island's interior, and relax on the beach in the world-famous beach chairs. You'll spend the next two nights on Langeoog, visiting the impressive Dornum Castle before boarding the ferry. After a leisurely day, the final leg of your journey takes you back to the mainland by ferry. After a stop in beautiful Aurich, you'll return to Emden.

  • Enjoy a portion of crab at the harbor: In the port of Greetsiel, you can't miss this specialty, as it's the largest crab cutter port in Germany. The traditional fleet is widely known, with the harbor mentioned as early as the 14th century. Another must-see: don't leave this charming place without visiting the twin windmills!
  • Pure relaxation on Norderney: The landscape is characterized by expansive sandy beaches and picturesque dune landscapes, and the island offers a variety of relaxing thalassotherapy options. After all, you're in a renowned spa and bathing resort.
  • The fascination of the tides: A guided mudflat walk is naturally also a highlight. The mudflats are a crucial habitat for numerous plant and animal species, including seals, lugworms, mussels, crabs, and many bird species. The ebb and flow of the tides define the Wadden Sea, with extensive sand and mud flats forming during low tide.

Leisure cyclists and beginners adore cycling in the north, where flat landscapes meet excellent cycle paths in East Frisia. On the small island of Borkum, there's a 130-kilometer network of cycling routes. You have flexibility on the islands, whether you prefer cycling or relaxing on the beach. Various ferry services are included in the travel package, and we'll transport your luggage from hotel to hotel for you.

Maritime flair meets North German charm – Welcome to the North Sea! But there's much more to discover; browse through our cycling tours in Northern Germany.
