Bavaria’s lake district is defined by its natural beauty and unmistakable charm, reflected in the traditional architecture of quaint villages and the genuine warmth of its people. You can head high up to the Zugspitze or take a refreshing plunge into the region’s sparkling lakes. Staffelsee, Riegsee, and Barmsee are just a few of the picture-perfect gems scattered along the route. Historic trade routes shaped the region’s past and its prosperity—evident today in the ornate town centers. In Munich, the Weißwurst capital, rustic beer gardens and the iconic Eisbach wave blend tradition with a modern urban vibe. It’s not just Bavarian culture that’s brimming with charm—your accommodations are, too. Each hotel offers its own unique flair and inviting character.

The starting point of the tour is the beautiful Munich in Bavaria. Culture Tip: Plan a city tour in Munich before starting the cycle tour. You will be amazed by the many cultural attractions and the charming city centre. By the way: A trip to the Hofbräuhaus Munich absolutely must be on the programme.

With every turn of the wheel, the Bavarian way of life comes closer, because every town has its own history. Murnau am Staffelsee, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Tölz and the Tegernsee are just a few of the highlights of the Munich Lake District. What should you expect? Wild, romantic valleys, beautiful landscapes and lush alpine meadows as far as the eye can see. Take a relaxed cycle from A to B and enjoy the Bavarian flair to the fullest. The best thing after a hard day of cycling? Arriving in one of our lovingly selected and charming hotels! Let yourself be pampered!

  • Murnauer Moos: On day three you cycle through the largest moorland in Central Europe, the Murnauer Moos nature reserve. As you make your way through the unspoiled landscape you can let your mind rund wild and simply enjoy the scenery. When you arrive in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Eurobike team recommends a ride on the Zugspitzbahn at 2,962 metres. You will be impressed!
  • Bad Tölz: Visit the location of the famous German TV show 'Der Bulle von Tölz'. Scenic landscapes and the Isarwinkel with its crystal clear, turquoise-blue water line the cycle path to Bad Tölz. A special feature are the richly deocrated town houses and the film set of the now legendary crime series where Otfried Fischer starred as a police investigator.
  • Bavarian beer in the Hofbräuhaus: It would really be a shame not to have visited the famous Hofbräuhaus in Munich. And then relax in the beautiful Roomers Hotel in Munich. Luxury!

Fantastic cycle paths, flat side roads and a few short climbs make up the tour character of the Munich Lakes with charm. Overall, the eight-day cycle tour through Bavaria is a simple tour and is perfect for leisure cyclists!

On our ‘Cycle Tours with Charm’ you can enjoy the full service of our individual active holidays while staying in very special accommodation with that extra something in the best location. That means you can look forward to luxury furnishings and decor in the local style, as well as cuisine at the highest level. Many of our hotels with charm also offer large pools and a wellness area where you can relax after a lovely day of cycling.

itinerary at a glance

Start your journey with a discovery tour through Munich and sample authentic Bavarian beer at the world-famous Hofbräuhaus. Stunning natural scenery awaits around every corner under the white-and-blue Bavarian sky—like at the source of the Isar River or the beautiful Sylvenstein Reservoir. The Zugspitze marks Germany’s highest point—but no worries, the cable car will take you all the way up to an impressive 2,962 meters (9,718 feet).

Information and bike rental. The capital of Bavaria offers numerous sights—explore the English Garden and stroll across Marienplatz to the City Hall. Grab a bite at the Hofbräuhaus to boost your energy before your tour.

From Munich, you’ll cycle through Forstenrieder Park to Starnberger See. From Starnberg, a beautiful bike path runs right along the lakeshore all the way to Seeshaupt. Passing through traditional Bavarian villages and by the Osterseen and Riegsee lakes, you’ll arrive in Murnau on Staffelsee.

Cycle through the Murnauer Moos nature reserve, the largest moorland in Central Europe. As you follow the pristine Loisach River, you’ll make your way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This stage is intentionally kept short so you have time to take a ride on the Zugspitzbahn up to 2,962 meters (9,718 feet) at your own pace. Once at the top, savor the breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps.

From Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you’ll cycle through Klais to the beautiful Barmsee. After that, you can either head straight to your overnight stop or take a detour through Mittenwald and Scharnitz to visit the source of the Isar River. Along the way to Scharnitz, you’ll climb about 300 meters (1,000 feet) in elevation before gently ascending through wild, romantic gorges and lush alpine meadows to the Isar spring. Riding through the sunny high valley with views of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains, you’ll return over Mittenwald to Wallgau—a village where Bavarian traditions are still alive and well.

Today, you’ll pass through the Isarwinkel region, following the crystal-clear, turquoise waters to the impressive Sylvensteinsee. Continuing on through Lenggries, you’ll arrive in the charming town of Bad Tölz. Situated at the crossroads of two historic trade routes—the Isar River and the old salt road from Reichenhall to the Allgäu—Bad Tölz quickly grew into a bustling center for trade. The richly decorated historic townhouses still bear witness to this prosperous era.

Follow the Isar bike path through Geretsried and Wolfratshausen on your way to Grünwald. After a few gentle climbs, you’ll arrive once again in Munich, Bavaria’s capital, where countless iconic sights await your discovery.
