View of Merano and the River Adige

Cycling Across the Alps? With Eurobike, not only is it possible—it’s surprisingly easy. Start your adventure in Munich with a visit to a traditional beer garden, a stroll through the English Garden, and a glimpse of the Eisbach surfers. Then it’s off toward the south! Breathtaking views await at Lake Starnberg, and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen you can take in the Alpine panorama from the top of the Zugspitze. As you cross from Bavaria into Tyrol, the steep ascent to the Reschen Pass is made effortless with a convenient transfer. Celebrate your arrival in South Tyrol with a cappuccino and a view of the iconic church in Lake Reschen. From there, it’s a smooth descent through stunning mountain scenery, with sweeping views of König Ortler, before arriving in Merano to walk in the footsteps of Empress Sisi. And to top it all off? A well-earned Sprizz as you toast your unforgettable Alpine crossing.

Take advantage of your day in Munich for a break in the English Garden or a shopping spree around Stachus. The first stage is dedicated to the Bavarian lakes, especially Lake Starnberg. The Murnauer Moos is considered the largest moor in Central Europe – on day 3, as you cycle towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen with its beautiful old town, you pass through the nature reserve. The final kilometers in Germany take you through the picturesque town of Mittenwald and through the Leutasch Gorge.

Upon arriving in Austria, you'll cycle along the Inn River to the Cistercian monastery in Stams and then continue to Imst. We save you the journey from Landeck to Nauders with a bus transfer – instead, take the time to enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Reschen. The final stage is lined with castles and palaces, such as Reinhold Messner's Castle Juval, offering splendid views of the majestic Ortler.

  • The Bavarian capital: Munich is full of contrasts – in a good way! Visit a traditional beer garden or try the many modern restaurants in the city center. The Residence and Nymphenburg Palace bear witness to majestic eras, while the Olympic Park and the Werksviertel offer a multitude of activities and events.
  • Germany's highest mountain: In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a ride on the Zugspitzbahn is highly recommended. At the summit, you'll have a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain landscape with numerous peaks above 3,000 meters. Take a break at the restaurant, which offers panoramic views and a chance to relax.
  • In Sissi's footsteps in Merano: Even the famous Empress Elisabeth ‘Sissi’ appreciated the flair and climate of the second-largest city in South Tyrol. Stroll along the Passer Promenade and treat yourself to a relaxing break in one of the charming cafes in the Old Town. Our recommendation: The botanical gardens of Trauttmannsdorff Castle are well worth a visit.

Indulge in selected accommodations above the standard during our charm vacations. The Eurobike team is at your disposal throughout the entire tour, offering assistance with the carefully planned route, luggage transfers, or the service hotline. Your package includes a transfer, namely over the Reschen Pass. Gentle inclines are to be mastered on each stage; otherwise, the routes ranging from 40 to 65 kilometers are easily manageable.

itinerary at a glance

Munich and Merano are the two urban gems of this adventure— Munich, the Weißwurst capital with its unmistakable Bavarian charm, and Merano, the elegant spa town with a touch of Mediterranean flair. Between them, the dramatic peaks of Tyrol give way to the gentle vineyards and orchards of South Tyrol. Scenic lakes like Lake Starnberg and Lake Reschen bring pure vacation vibes to every stage of the journey.

Bavaria’s capital is bursting with sights to explore. Wander from Stachus to Marienplatz and immerse yourself in the lively charm of the historic old town. When you need a moment of calm you can retreat to the serene oasis of the English Garden.

You start in Munich and cycle through Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. A beautiful bike path along the lakeshore takes you to Seeshaupt and then on through picturesque villages, past the Osterseen and Riegsee, all the way to Murnau on Lake Staffel.

This stage takes you through the Murnauer Moos Nature Reserve, the largest moorland in Central Europe. Following the pristine landscape, you cycle alongside the Loisach River. Before long, you’ll reach Garmisch-Partenkirchen with plenty of time to take an optional ride on the Zugspitze Railway up to 2,962 meters (9,718 feet). Get ready for breathtaking views over the Alps.

Today’s stage leads you to the Isar River, but first you’ll cycle through a sun-drenched high valley with breathtaking views of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountain ranges. The charming town of Mittenwald beckons you to pause and discover its traditional Lüftlmalerei (painted frescoes). Continuing through the scenic Leutasch Valley, you’ll be treated to spectacular vistas as you cross into Austria. From there, follow the Leutascher Bach stream all the way to your overnight destination.

Today’s route takes you down into the Inn Valley. You’ll leave Leutasch via a gently rolling country road before enjoying an eight-kilometer (about 5 miles) descent to Telfs. Following the former towpath, you’ll cycle along the Inn River all the way to Stams, home to its impressive Baroque Cistercian monastery. From there, via Haiming, it’s a short ride to Imst, often called the “Merano of North Tyrol.”

Continuing along the Inn River, you’ll pass the monastery at Zams before arriving in Landeck. From there, a bus transfer will take you up to Nauders. You’ll have just under 70 meters (about 230 feet) of elevation remaining to reach the Reschen Pass. Afterward, enjoy the scenic descent to Lake Reschen, followed by the day’s final stretch along the bike path to St. Valentin.

The final stage is rich with cultural highlights, beginning with the remarkably well-preserved medieval city wall of Glurns. En route to Merano, you’ll pass historic mining ruins near Schlanders, along with several castles and palaces. A standout is Juval Castle, the residence of mountaineer Reinhold Messner, offering stunning views of the Ortler massif and Stelvio Pass. Since 2004, the Vinschgau Railway has been operating again between Mals and Merano, giving you the option to travel portions of the route by train at your convenience.

Now, wouldn’t it be great to add a few extra days? Take the opportunity to extend your journey all the way to Lake Garda.
