The route leads you from Black Forest metropolis Fribourg first by train to High Black Forest and then downhill to Lake Titisee. Along Bähnle cycle path which was a train line in former times you cycle downhill to gorge Wutachschlucht. On your way from Waldshut to Basel you pass some precious palaces. Afterwards you cycle through Markgräflerland, which is also named Tuscany of Germany. At the end you reach the historic old city of Fribourg with famous stream again.

Embark on your cycling adventure from the delightful university town of Freiburg. The first day of the journey offers plenty of sights to explore, such as Lake Titisee or the charming Bonndorf, where you can visit the castle and its enchanting Japanese garden. Pedal through the scenic Wutach Valley until you reach the Rhine, then continue your journey to Basel, Switzerland.

Journeying towards Badenweiler unveils serene spa towns and the unmissable Isteiner Klotz. The concluding leg guides you back to Freiburg, where you can conclude your tour with a relaxing evening at one of the beer gardens. Before that, delight in a scenic ride through the vineyards, soaking in the breathtaking vistas of the Vosges mountains.

  • Enjoy the wonderful flair of Freiburg: While in Freiburg im Breisgau, don't miss the impressive Freiburg Minster and take a leisurely stroll through the charming historic old town, characterized by its timber-framed houses and winding brooks. Enjoy panoramic views from the Schlossberg, explore the Augustiner Museum, and treat yourself to regional specialties at the plethora of bars and restaurants, including the renowned Feierling brewery.
  • Relax and unwind at Lake Titisee: Renowned for water sports and scenic boat tours, Lake Titisee also boasts picturesque footpaths offering breathtaking views. Take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade and browse for souvenirs to bring back home. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the nearby Hochfirstschanze for its stunning panoramic views. Immerse yourself in nature and unwind on the tranquil shores!
  • Visit the baroque castle in Bonndorf: The castle stands as a remarkable showcase of Baroque architecture. Explore its grand rooms, stroll through the palace garden, and delve into the Museum of City History. The Japanese Garden showcases traditional elements such as ponds, bridges, and stone lanterns, providing a serene atmosphere for relaxation.

In the Black Forest, you'll find a route brimming with attractions and stunning natural scenery, offering an ideal escape from everyday life. Over the seven-day tour, you'll cover approximately 240 kilometers. The cycle paths are predominantly flat, although you'll encounter a few hilly sections amidst the dense forests to add a touch of challenge to your journey.

In Baden-Württemberg, it's not only the captivating allure of the Black Forest that beckons visitors with its mystical and ancient beauty. A cycling getaway in southern Germany promises gentle hills, shimmering lakes, picturesque landscapes, and abundant hours of sunshine, creating an inviting atmosphere for exploration and relaxation.

First you cycle through valley Dreisamtal to Kirchzarten. By train via Himmelreich and through narrow valley Höllental up to Hinterzarten (not included). By bike downhill to lake Titisee. Via Lenzkirch you reach Bonndorf.

Before you reach river Rhine today, you should visit 20.000 year-old gorge Wutachschlucht. On your way you have the possibility to go by train Sauschwänzlebahn (facultative, about € 10,-/person). Enjoyable you cycle along river Rhine.

You cycle further on downstream, via Laufenburg to Bad Säckingen, where you'll find Europe's longest wooden, roofed bridge. Have a stop here – there are two very special museums you can visit: The Müllmuseum (garbage museum) and a museum about the famous "Trumpeter from Bad Säckingen". Following the northern bank of the Rhine, you cycle on to Rheinfelden. To shorten the route you can board a train here (not included). Should you decide to continue by bike, a visit to the Roman fort Augusta Raurica is worthwhile.

You follow Rhine bike path via Isteiner Klotz, in former times directly at Rhine and at every time it was fortified. At the boarder of the Southern Black Forest you cycle passing few little spa-villages, which are using the curative water of that region.

Today you cycle along the vineyards of the Markgräfler country, at the right side the Black Forest, left it’s reflection, the Vogesen. Back in Fribourg we recommend visiting the Augustinermuseum and at the evening the beer garden.
