Itinerary

In the evening you will have a personal tour briefing and bike distribution. The first capital of Italy awaits you with lots of places of interest!

Hotel (example):

Art Hotel Boston

In the morning, bus or train transfer up to Superga. Enjoy the marvellous view from the basilica over Turin and all the way to the Alps. The cycle route takes you through colourful vineyards from one village to the next. Today you spend the night in an ‚agriturismo’, a Piemontese country house, where the ‚mama’ will prepare an authentic regional dinner menu for you.

Hotel (example):

Cascina Barosca

More and more vines line the route now. You cycle past little mountain villages and the Piedmont presents itself with breathtaking views. Your overnight stay is in Asti, a town teeming with culture. Not only famous for its eponymous sparkling wine, but also for its renowned Palio-contest, a horse race where each borough competes for supremacy for the coming year.

Hotel (example):

Hotel Aleramo

Today you cycle right through the heart of the Asti wine growing area. Each of the villages has their own distinctive traditions and invites you to a tasting of course. We recommend you take a cappuccino-break at the medieval piazza in Nizza Monferrato before you proceed to your accommodation. In proper style you spend the night in an ‚agriturismo’ with its own vineyard, in which you get to enjoy the culinary specialities in the evening.

Hotel (example):

Agriturismo Le due Cascine

Today’s cycle route is characterised by marvellous views across the renowned vineyards. In Neive you walk through one of the most stunning old part of towns in Italy and in Barbareco you find yourselves in the – next to Barolo - probably most famous wine-growing town of the Piedmont. Your Day Finish however is the medieval town of Alba. This is the place where the white truffle, highly coveted by gourmets worldwide, grows in exceptionally high quality.

Hotel (example):

Hotel Calissano

Initially you cycle in the Roero region, renowned for its heavy-bodied red wines, which can also be sampled for instance in the Enoteca del Roero in Canale. Afterwards you proceed along little streams and through dark green forests all the way to Montafia. Congenial to the rural surroundings, you spend the night yet again in a beautiful ‚agriturismo’, typical dinner included.

Hotel (example):

Agriturismo Cascine Vignole

Along the route you come across little sleepy villages and many a grapevine will entice you yet again to a small glass of wine. In Chieri we recommend you take a break and enjoy the beautiful piazzas and cosy little alleyways, before you cycle along the river Po for the final few kilometres. Much too soon will you have returned to the starting point of this holiday - the magnificent Turin.

Tour character

You cycle mainly on side roads with very little traffic. Due to the shorter stages you have a lot of time of your hands to just enjoy. The terrain is hilly overall with a few short but steep ascents. There will be slightly more traffic when entering or leaving a town as well as on short connective sections.

Nice tour but wrong name
The bike ride was, as expected, good. However, the name of the bike ride, Gourmet is wrong, more correctly had been traditional Italian food. We especially liked the mix with every other day town every other day rural setting. Tips for the first farm are to build a pool.

Good cycling route
The whole tour went very well. It was very easy with to follow the route with GPS route on my bike gps. I used a road/racing bike and it was no problem. I can recommend using a road bike for this trip. I could store my bike case in the Torino hotel for the whole week The area around Alba/Asti was my favourite with beautiful views along the hills. Piedmont is in nice weather and fruits are ready for picking in september. I saw alot of kiwi, apples, nut trees, and especially grapes.

Beautiful ride
Ascending elevation between 450m and 800m every day. Some climbs are really steep. Fortunately, the steepest ones are relatively short. A bit of training is recommended. The assigned roads are rather quite excepting between Alba and Nieve. Beautiful sights from the road. Due to the numerous ascents, the stages are relatively short. In addition, the weather was hot and we departed everyday without delay. Then we arrived sometimes before our luggage. In such situation, one would recommend the subscribers to take a bit of spare clothes with them. The tour is perfectly named Gourmet Piedmont: good food and wine everywhere. Also, the staff was friendly and helpful everywhere in that region. Nevertheless, Asti and Alba cannot rival with the cities of the Bolzano-Venise tour which we followed 2 years ago.

Thank you very much for your detailed travel feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday, seems that you really hat a good time in the region of good food and wine! Piedmont is a very rural region and of course not comparable to tourist cities like Bolzano or Venice. Hope to see you soon again!
