Ice cream break for two cyclists in Barolo

Pure indulgence lures all gourmets worldwide to the second largest region of Italy. In the Piedmont region many “temptations” of the highest quality are produced and enjoyed here at the same time. Who is not familiar with the fragrant white truffles from Alba, the sparkling Asti “spumante” or the exquisite chocolate of Ferrero. You will experience all of these delicacies up close and personal during your cycling tour. Immerse yourself in busy historic towns but also sense the tranquility of the breathtaking vineyards. Even the accommodations are contrasting on this holiday. In the towns you stay overnight in modern 4**** hotels and in the villages, you are accommodated in comfortable “agriturismi”, which are renowned for authentic cuisine. In the evenings you get to enjoy the local delicacies. Pure bliss plain and simple!

Eight days, and eight chances to be seduced by the delicacies – that’s what you get on a cycle tour to the north of Italy. Gourmets will indulge in heavenly pleasures and sample all the delicacies Piedmont has to offer. From Turin via Cerreto d’Asti, Canelli via Alba to Montafia, you will cycle through lively, historic cities and experience a varied programme. In the ‘cittá’ there are modern four-star hotels with a chic atmosphere. The complete opposite awaits you in the villages of Piedmont where you will live in comfortable and quaint ‘Agritourismi’ (farm houses) with authentic country cuisine and Italian charm. That will complete your cycling adventure in northern Italy.

  • Asti – a city full of culture: the city is not only famous for its sparkling wine of the same name, but also for the competition ‘Palio’. A horse race, where competitors fight to become the year’s champion.
  • A class of wine in Barbareco: you will cycle through the most famous wine town in Italy. The home of Barolo. Treat yourself to a glass of wine and watch as the Italians hurry by from the comfort of your chair.

Over eight days you will cycle through Piedmont - home to truffles, wine and chocolate. Most of the time you will cycle on low-traffic side roads. On the shorter stages in days three and four, there is plenty time to enjoy leisurely pauses. The route is ideal for the ambitious holiday cyclist. Overall the route is quite hilly with short, but steep passages. Each day features between 35 and 50 kilometres. So you earn a little treat in the evening!

Do you love everything that smells, tastes delicious and causes goosebumps on the skin? Then the bike trip to Piedmont is just for you! Book your culinary trip with the Eurobike team right away.

In the morning, bus or train transfer up to Superga. Enjoy the marvellous view from the basilica over Torino and all the way to the Alps. The cycle route takes you through colourful vineyards from one village to the next. Today you spend the night in a Piemontese country house, where there will be prepared an authentic regional dinner menu for you.

More and more vines line the route now. You cycle past little mountain villages and the Piedmont presents itself with breathtaking views. Your overnight stay is in Asti, a town teeming with culture. Not only famous for its eponymous sparkling wine, but also for its renowned Palio-contest, a horse race where each borough competes for supremacy for the coming year.

Today you cycle right through the heart of the Asti wine growing area. Each of the villages has their own distinctive traditions and invites you to a tasting of course. We recommend you take a cappuccino-break at the medieval piazza in Nizza Monferrato before you proceed to your accommodation. In proper style you spend the night in an ‚agriturismo’ with its own vineyard, in which you get to enjoy the culinary specialities in the evening.

Hotel (example): Agriturismo Le due Cascine

Today’s cycle route is characterised by marvellous views across the renowned vineyards. In Neive you walk through one of the most stunning old part of towns in Italy and in Barbaresco you find yourselves in the – next to Barolo - probably most famous wine-growing town of the Piedmont. Your Day Finish however is the medieval town of Alba. This is the place where the white truffle, highly coveted by gourmets worldwide, grows in exceptionally high quality.

Hotel (example): Hotel Calissano

Initially you cycle in the Roero region, renowned for its heavy-bodied red wines, which can also be sampled for instance in the Enoteca del Roero in Canale. Afterwards you proceed along little streams and through dark green forests all the way to Montafia. Congenial to the rural surroundings, you spend the night yet again in a beautiful ‚agriturismo’, typical dinner included.

Hotel (example): Agriturismo Cascina Vignole

Along the route you come across little sleepy villages and every now and then a grapevine will entice you yet again to a small glass of wine. In Chieri we recommend you take a break and enjoy the beautiful piazzas and cosy little alleyways, before you cycle along the river Po for the final few kilometres. Much too soon will you have returned to the starting point of this holiday - the magnificent Torino.

You cycle mainly on side roads with very little traffic. Due to the shorter stages you have a lot of time of your hands to just enjoy. The terrain is hilly overall with a few short but steep ascents. There will be slightly more traffic when entering or leaving a town as well as on short connective sections.
