Pleasure at the ocean and in the hinterland!
Arrival in the hotel where you will find your travel documents and bikes (if booked). We recommend taking a walk along the beach where the hotel is beautifully located.
First, you will ride your bicycle to Santa Luzia with “The sacred heart of Jesus Temple”, undoubtedly one of the most famous and emblematic monuments in Viana do Castelo and in the country and through the picturesque town of Viana do Castelo. Wonderful sightseeings. You will be able to enjoy a unique panoramic view of the surrounding coastline. On your way back, you will soon get to the coast and your hotel, passing by S.Mamede in asphalted walk and passage through Praia Norte. For the grand finale, stop in the city of Viana do Castelo and enjoy the famous “Bolas de Berlim” (a type of doughnuts) by Manuel Natario, a tiny little sin in this itinerary…
On minor roads with little traffic you drive in the direction of Lanheses. You will observe the fields with the “Vinho Verde” vineyards, the pastures with cattle and the rich granitic Manor Houses, so typical of the region. It´s a pleasant and relaxed experience with time to enjoy the landscape and breathe the countryside air. Take your time to explore the oldest village of Portugal “Ponte de Lima” with it’s worth seeing and famous roman bridge. On your way back to the hotel, you will find yourself on the protected land of “Lagoas de Bertiandos“ (bird watching place).
On the fourth day, the route leads you along the river Neiva and along the coast southbound. You have the possibility so see several churches which are important for this region and you can enjoy those small towns. On your way back you will cycle on the coastal path “Camino de Santiago de Compostela”. As the atlantic ocean is never far away you can enjoy the beaches, the coastal forest and the fresh air!
Active recreation
Today, no bike ride is on the agenda. We recommend a short hike/walk to Viana do Castelo, a 3 km walk, that will take you to a iron bridge with 140 years from Gustave Eiffel. You advise you to go to the city centre and explore all the interesting sights: Praça da Republica, Santa Luzia and the Funicular, Museum of decorative Arts, Museum of “Traje”, Gil Eanes Ship, “Santiago da Barra” Castel.
Transfer nach Vila Nova de Cerveira. Auf Ecovias und Nebenstraßen nach Caminha an der Flussmündung des Minho mit dem kleineren Fluss Coura. Hier ist der Fluss zwei Kilometer breit und bildet die Grenze zu Spanien. Sie fahren durch das kleine Fischerdorf Vila Praia de Ancora und entlang der Küste zurück zum Hotel.
Relaxing walk through the valley of a slight ascent passage though “ Perre” with magnificent views on roads with very little traffic. Passage in Vila Praia de Ancora for lunch and return to the hotel always with a view to the sea and usually with favourable wind.

Flat coastal paths and also hilly routes with ascends. Sealed ways, country roads and Ecovias (typical Portuguese cycle paths also on “natural grounds”). The routes can be shortened or extended individually. Sometimes a little bit exhausting, but it is really worth it!
