Cyclist with a view of Lake Riegsee

The lakes south of Bavaria’s vibrant capital offer a charming blend of scenic tranquility, rustic coziness, and rich Bavarian tradition. This eight-day journey begins in lively Munich, where museums, beer gardens, and historic landmarks create a constant buzz. With each mile on the bike, the world grows quieter and the landscapes more breathtaking. Along idyllic shores like Lake Ammersee, you’ll enjoy sweeping mountain views and refreshing dips after your ride. Lake Starnberg has long attracted high society—both in imperial times and today. Throughout the journey, you’ll encounter Bavarian customs in welcoming towns and villages, especially in Bad Tölz. And of course, no visit would be complete without hearty local cuisine and the famous Bavarian hospitality.

Even the first stage to the Ammersee offers numerous highlights! Along the Royal Bavarian Cycle Path you will reach Andechs Monastery, which has been a popular place of pilgrimage for around 900 years. Once you arrive in Herrsching, a boat trip awaits you. 159 churches and monasteries characterise the beautiful region of the Pfaffenwinkel, which you cross the next day on your way to Lake Starnberg.

Once around Lake Starnberg and on to the Easter Lakes, Lake Riegsee and Lake Kochelsee on day 5. There is no lack of swimming opportunities on this tour - enjoy the sparkling blue lakes! Before you have another chance to explore Munich, the home of the "bull" from the German TV show ‘Der Bulle von Tölz’ awaits. Greetings in Bad Tölz!

  • The boat trip on Lake Ammersee promises great views: Tranquillity, idyll and nature on and around the lake and the magnificent panoramas will make you forget everything around you. Take a look to the south, where the Zugspitze towers majestically.
  • The Bavarian monastery of Andechs is not only a monastery, but also an organic farm, an event venue, a brewery, an inn, a herb garden and much more - explore this special place!
  • The Lüftlmalerei in Bad Tölz is a special type of facade art from the 18th century, which can best be seen on the market square. Immerse yourself in the town's diverse traditions, be it the architecture, traditional clothing or simply the warmth of the people.
  • The English Garden in Munich is a wonderful place to relax in the middle of the big city. Mingle with the spectators at the Eisbachwelle, where professional surfers show off their skills. Afterwards, you can stop off at the Chinese Tower and enjoy a beer in the garden.

A wonderful tour, which impresses with the grandiose landscape, closeness to nature and the unbeatable panoramas. The stages vary in length (30 to 60km) and are therefore easy to master. The good cycle paths and natural roads include some climbs.

itinerary at a glance

Swimming, water sports, and stunning panoramas from the deck of a boat—the Ammersee, Starnberger See, and Kochelsee are sure to enchant you. In the Pfaffenwinkel region, churches and monasteries dot the landscape, and a stop at the beer garden in the majestic Andechs Abbey is a must. In contrast to the rural charm, Munich awaits with the energy of a vibrant city, where world-class culture meets trendy restaurants and lively bars.

Your journey begins with a welcome briefing and bike handover in Bavaria’s vibrant capital. Munich offers a wealth of sights and attractions—from the world-famous Hofbräuhaus and the impressive town hall to the bustling Stachus square. For a peaceful escape, relax in the Englischer Garten, the city’s beloved green oasis.

The impressive Andechs Abbey stands out unmistakably—take a break in its cozy beer garden to savor a Maß of beer before enjoying an exhilarating descent down to the lakeshore. Afterwards, unwind with a scenic boat ride from Herrsching to Dießen. You can choose to spend the night in either Herrsching or Dießen.
