Ten Lakes & Sound of Music

In the footsteps of empress Sissi & co.

What is lovelier than being out and about, cycling along the banks of lakes, and just letting your spirit soar in a marvellous natural landscape? The cycle tour through the Salzkammergut and the Trumer Seen lake area is wonderfully suited for this. Only a few kilometres beyond Salzburg, you will be greeted by the luxury of a unique natural panorama. The gentle, hilly landscape of Salzburg’s alpine foothills has a charm all of its own. You will cycle through meadows and moorlands to Oberndorf – the place associated with the Christmas carol "Silent Night" - and also to the old imperial town of Bad Ischl. In a way, you will be travelling through a whole world of clichés transformed into realities. The ten lakes round tour is active recreation, experiencing nature and enjoying many attractions, such as the Schafberg mountain and the Orth castle.

On the banks of the lakes and at the river Salzach, the routes are completely flat. In between, the terrain is mainly hilly. Depending on the option chosen, approximately one third of the route is on cycle paths and almost all the rest is through fields and on forest paths, farm roads, and quiet side roads. Charmantes Salzkammergut

A Magical exploration of this wonderful part of the world
The holiday was magical from start to finish. The route is mainly flat(ish), surprising when you consider you are exploring the edge of the Alps. Information was spot on - the new App was an added bonus to help support your navigation. Overall a great holiday.

Very special holiday
What an idyllic week. Being so close to nature - the flower-filled meadows, picturesque farms, wildlife and of course those fabulous lakes, made for a wonderful week. The bikes were great and despite our initial concerns, the pannier and front handlebar box, were well designed and did keep everything dry in the mixed weather we enjoyed! There is undoubtedly homework to be done to minimise routing errors and we would recommend downloading the GPX maps for ease of travel. Hotels were great (and offered drying rooms!), luggage transfers all went smoothly and all in all we had no complaints. The biggest challenge was the unexpected hike from St Gilgen. Signage was very limited and the ascent steep. More directions could have been useful. Overall we loved everything about it and will look to do another 'cycling adventure' next year.

Beautiful bike roads
Coming from Sweden, I did not know much about what to expect from this tour. The Eurobike team gave me all the info I needed before the tour and answered questions quickly. It is quite easy to do this tour even if you do not speak any german. The route goes through beautiful countryside and quiet side roads. A couple of UNESCO towns are also included. While absolutely gorgeous I found them a little bit too touristy personally. Really a fitting name 10 lakes and sound of music for it. Easy to follow the route with E stickers. I had one puncture which the hotel guided me to a close by bike shop which fixed it quickly. My top tip: Ask for the GPS tracks and get them on your cycling gps pre tour, takes all the hassle out of reading guide notes. This let me just enjoy the landscape. Another tip: Munich airport has great train connections to Salzburg (about 2,5 hour ride).

Ten lakes - close to Salzburg
A very nice and incredibly beautiful cycling holiday. Cycling on bicycle roads or on small country roads with low traffic. Through rolling countryside and along small lakes where you could take a cooling swim. We stayed at small guesthouses, all with friendly staff and great service. A trip I really can recommend.

Cycling around the lakes
You don't have to spend your whole day on your bicycle, there is plenty of time to have a swim, take pictures, enjoy a drink and discover some nice villages.

Zehn Seen Rundfahrt

Tolle Tour durchs Salzkammergut
