Mediterranean landscapes, wonderful cultural hotspots and culinary highlights for every taste: all this awaits you on the bike tour from Lake Resia to Lake Garda. From Resia/Italy you cycle along the Adige cycle path through the dreamlike South Tyrol to Lago di Garda. Selected wines, traditional Italian cuisine and tasty antipasti accompany your culinary bike tour.

The leisure and culture lovers among you have a reason to be happy. Because on the bike saddle towards Lake Garda you will experience not only mountain panoramas and charming landscapes, but also culinary delights of the highest class. From the Alps, you can soar 1500 metres downhill into sunny Italy. Meran, Bolzano and Trento are just a few South Tyrolean villages that line the cycle path to Lake Lago. Through the vineyards and orchards you cycle in good spirits on well-maintained cycled paths towards the destination.

Indulgence: treat yourself to a rest along the South Tyrolean Wine Route and enjoy a glass or two of fine wine. What will you find? Characterful white wine and strong red wine specialities that will provide pure enjoyment.

With every push of the pedals, the Italian way of life gets stronger. Be enchanted by the Dolce Vita and immerse yourself in the relaxed and enjoyable lifestyle around Lake Garda. Pizza, pasta and gelato are just waiting to be eaten. Once you arrive at Lake Garda you can finally relax and enjoy yourself.

  • The sunken church: The sunken church in the Reschensee is especially worth seeing. Tip: before leaving, take time to take a photo of the impressive natural landscape.
  • South Tyrol: If you had to describe South Tyrol in three words, it would be: wine, charm and nature. No matter where, South Tyrol is impressive. From Meran to Bolzano it has a unique flair and incomparable hospitality.
  • Lago di Garda: Lake Garda and its lovely towns and villages offers a special lifestyle. No place is like the other and so the lake offers the right spot for everyone. Just enjoy the good life and relax.

In the seven or eight-day tour, you cover approximately 250 kilometres by bike. For the most part, the route runs along the Adige. It goes downhill about 1,500 metres. Enjoy the cook breeze before tackling a few inclines.

Two lakes, as different as night and day: Reschensee and Lake Garda. What they do share is their breathtaking beauty—and they mark the start and finish of this timelessly popular cycling tour. The journey begins in northern South Tyrol, where the stunning view of Reschensee already sets the tone. Apple orchards, vineyards, castles, and palaces accompany you through the Vinschgau Valley. The lively streets and bustling piazzas of Merano and Bolzano await, before you follow the Adige River past the German-speaking border. At Lake Garda, Mediterranean charm and the spirit of “Dolce Vita” welcome you. Along the way, cultural highlights abound—be sure to visit Ötzi, the world-famous Iceman, in Bolzano.

Hotel (example): Hotel Goldene Rose

On your way you will come across some pretty castles (mountaineer Reinhold Messner’s castle Juval) and you will get marvellous views of the impressive mountain Ortlermassiv and the mountain pass Stilfserjoch, whilst you are rolling down on your bike into the tranquil Merano with its Mediterranean vegetation.

Hotel (example): Villa Laurus

There are two alternative ways leading to Bolzano: either you cycle along the river Adige or you take the way with impressive landscapes through orchards to Lana and Appiano. On this route you can even visit the Messner Mountain Museum, which is located in the renovated ruin Sigmundskron. Ötzi, the Iceman, is surely worth a visit.

Hotel (example): Mondschein

You cycle through numerous orchards and vineyards in the area of the wine trail of South Tyrol. Moreover, you pass a lot of castles, palaces and ruins, as well as the wine village Appiano. Then you continue to Lake Caldaro before you get to Ora.

Hotel (example): Hotel Villa Groff

Mostly along the nice cycle path of the river Adige, partly through orchards again, until you get to Salurn, where the German-speaking South Tyrol ends. The causeways lead until Trento, which has a lovely and impressive old town.

Today, you will cycle on bike paths along the river Adige via the old Tyrolean border town of Rovereto to Mori. From here, the route leads westward to Lake Garda. Itinerary at a glance

The first spectacular view greets you with the Reschensee and its famous submerged church. Reinhold Messner’s Schloss Juval is definitely worth a stop, as is the impressive Ruine Sigmundskron. Just before reaching Lake Garda, the charming old town of Trient awaits your visit. At Lago di Garda, you’ll savor breathtaking views alongside vino, gelato, and antipasti!

In the evening, you’ll receive your personal tour briefing and bike handover. Enjoy the beautiful nature of northern South Tyrol—just a few kilometers past the Austrian border, majestic mountain ranges and stunning river valleys await.

Hotel (example): Panorama 2000

At Lake Reschen, cycle along the shore with stunning views of the iconic submerged church tower in Graun. Then explore the medieval town of Glurns, where a fully intact city wall invites you to step back in time. Your day ends in Schlanders, the vibrant heart of the Vinschgau Valley.

Hotel (example): Hotel Goldene Rose

Castles and fortresses—most notably Reinhold Messner’s renowned Schloss Juval—line the route or stand proudly above it. The imposing Ortler massif and the dramatic Stilfserjoch pass guide your journey as you cycle toward the charming town of Meran, nestled amidst lush Mediterranean greenery.

Hotel (example): Villa Laurus

Two route options lead to Bolzano: one follows the Adige River, while the other takes you on a more scenic ride through South Tyrol’s lush orchards, passing charming villages like Lana and Eppan. Along the way, you’ll visit the Messner Mountain Museum, set within the beautifully restored Sigmundskron fortress. In Bolzano, savor a cappuccino at Waltherplatz and wander through the picturesque, arcaded streets. A visit to Ötzi, the famous Iceman, is an unforgettable experience you won’t want to miss.

Hotel (example): Mondschein

This stage is beautifully framed by abundant orchards and vineyards. Following the South Tyrolean Wine Road, you’ll pedal past a fascinating array of castles, palaces, and ruins. As you pass Lake Caldaro, don’t miss the chance to take a refreshing dip in the warmest swimming lake in the Alps, before arriving in the picturesque wine village of Ora.

Hotel (example): Hotel Villa Groff

This stage mostly follows the scenic bike path along the Adige River, leading you once again through fragrant orchards until you reach Salurn, the southernmost point of the German-speaking South Tyrol. From there, you’ll continue cycling along the levee paths all the way to Trento, where a charming historic old town awaits your exploration.

Hotel (example): NH Trento

The final stage begins in the historic Tyrolean border town of Rovereto, continues on to Mori, and then heads west toward Lake Garda. In Mori, don’t miss a stop at Gelateria Bologna to savor their famous pistachio ice cream or a freshly pressed fruit juice. After a brief climb over the small Passo San Giovanni (about 150 meters / 490 feet), you’ll enjoy a downhill ride to the lake, arriving in either Torbole or Riva.

Difficulty level

Easy

You will cycle on beautiful bike paths mainly along the Adige River. The route will lead you from the Resia (mountain pass) almost 1,500 metres in altitude downhill to Lake Garda. However, you will have to cycle some small climbs too. Overall, you will find yourself on beautiful bike paths and country lanes. Unfortunately, moderate traffic is unavoidable on some short connecting roads.

Difficulty level

Easy

As you cycle along the beautifully maintained paths following the Adige River, South Tyrol’s stunning scenery surrounds you at every turn. Daily stages cover between 18 and 44 miles (30 to 70 kilometers), and with nearly 4,900 feet (1,500 meters) of downhill from the Reschen Pass to Lake Garda, even beginners will find the route comfortably manageable. Only occasionally do gentle climbs add a bit of variety. For the most part, you’ll enjoy dedicated bike paths or smooth farm roads, with busy roads appearing only briefly and rarely.
