Information about the Tauern Cycle Path

The Tauern cycle path

There are two different versions of the Tauern Cycle Path: one runs along the Salzach and the Inn from the regions of Salzburg and Upper Austria. The second variant leads cyclists further into Berchtesgadener Land. The cycle path through the Hohe Tauern begins in Oberpinzgau and then continues through Pongau and Tennengau to the capital of the state of Salzburg. Here the two variants separate and lead either towards Passau or through the Saalach valley back to the Pinzgau.

Height profile

The tour starts at the Krimml waterfalls, which are located about 1100 metres above sea level, and ends in Passau which is only 300 metres above sea level. The cycle tours on the Tauern Cycle Path can be classified as more leisurely – expect less strenuous climbs and look forward to many flat and slightly downhill routes.
