Eurobike takes you on a new cycle tour from Innsbruck to Augsburg. As you travel along the 2,000-year-old Via Claudia Augusta you will be transported back to a forgotten time. The romantic road leads through scenic gems and past the sumptuous Bishop’s mansions. Along the rivers Inn and Lech you cycle on low-traffic side roads to city of Augsburg. The Bavarian city is particularly special, with its numerous impressive architectural monuments from all eras, and the famous Fuggerei from 1521 – the oldest existing social housing complex in the world today.

Cycling has to be fun and that’s exactly what the journey from Innsbruck to Augsburg offers! Gentle hills, gentle slopes and a focus on culinary and cultural delights. It’s ideal for the casual cyclist! What’s more, you can explore Roman baths, the fairytale castle of King Ludwig II and magnificent mountain landscapes. For example, the city of Füssen. Surrounded by alpine peaks and blue-green mountain lakes, it promises and entertaining stay.

  • Rococo and Baroque-style churches: You can see splendid religious buildings all they way along the path. The Baroque Cistercian Abbey in Stams, or the famous pilgrimage church in Pfaffenwinkel in the town of Steingaden. An absolute must for culture lovers!

  • The Fugger city of Augsburg: It feels a little like Italy, but is in Bavaria – the old town of Augsburg exudes Mediterranean flair. Tip: Be sure to explore the Lechviertel with its old streets and historic cobblestones, and don’t forget to go to the Fuggerei.

Your seven-day bike tour begins with your arrival in the city of the Golden Roof – Innsbruck. The cycle tour continues to Imst and Füssen, Shongau and Landsberg am Lech, until you finally arrive in the city of Augsburg. Every day you cycle between 35 and 65 kilometres on small side roads near the Roman roads. Good to know: From Imst via the Hahntennjoch at 2,000 metres you and your bike are chauffeured by bus.

Itinerary

Tour information and distribution of the bikes. The famous old town, the golden roof and the Bergisel ski jump are all world famous attractions that lure visitors into Salzburg.

You cycle along the River Inn on the former tow path. You will be at the foot of the Martinswand and you will cycle through small villages and market towns to Stams where there is a baroque monastary (Zisterzienserstift). You continue cycling via Haiming to Imst. It is well worth going for a walk here as there are many fountains to see as well as a magnificent mountainous scenery.

Bus transfer up to the Hahntenjoch situated at 2000m above sea level. If there is snow, the transfer will be via the Fernpass. Afterwards you have a wonderful descent to Elmen in the Lech valley. The wonderful mountainous landscape, the river and the town of Reutte all combine to make for a dream trip. Füssen, which is boxed in by great Alpine peaks and turqoise mountain lakes, promises you an entertaining stay.

It is possible to do a small cycle tour to Lake Bannwald and Lake Forggen. However, make sure you leave enought time to visit King Louis’ castles. Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau attract visitors from all over the world!

Today you get spectacular views of the Lech valley thanks to the slightly undulating route that you shall take. You can discover traces from the Roman times in Altenstadt, Hochenfurch and Epfach. The cycle path is great and runs all the way into Landsberg’s medieval centre. The historical town hall and the Bavarian gothic gate are must-sees for every visitor in this area.

Today you get spectacular views of the Lech valley thanks to the slightly undulating route that you shall take. You can discover traces from the Roman times in Altenstadt, Hochenfurch and Epfach. The cycle path is great and runs all the way into Landsberg’s medieval centre. The historical town hall and the Bavarian gothic gate are must-sees for every visitor in this area.

You cycle along the River Lech via Kaufering to Königsbrunn (lasting 11km this is the best retained section of the Via Claudia) and then you continue further on to the Fugger town of Augsburg with its famous Fuggerei dating back to the year 1516. There are also many memorials from all eras.

You cycle along the River Inn and Lech on bike paths and small side roads on what is a quiet and scenic route close to the Roman road. A bike tour that is great for all. From Imst/Hahntenjoch 2000m (transfer), you constantly cycle gently downhill with short hilly sections.
