Thionville

Known in German as Diedenhofen, Thionville is both the heart of French steel production and home to Europe’s largest inland port for metallurgical goods. The city has long been contested between France and Germany, a history reflected in landmarks like the belfry, town hall, and the Flea Tower (Tour aux Puces).

Schengen

A small winegrowing village with a great legacy. In 1985, it gave its name to the Schengen Agreement, symbolizing open borders in Europe. Along the Moselle you’ll find the European Museum, a European memorial, and even a piece of the Berlin Wall, installed in 2010. The water castle, Château de Schengen, is also well worth a visit.

Piesport

Piesport, too, bears traces of Roman influence. Excavations uncovered a diatret glass, now displayed at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Trier. Rising directly above the Moselle is the 85-meter-high Moselloreley. Surrounded by vineyards, the town welcomes visitors to enjoy its many traditional wine taverns.

Koblenz

Koblenz marks the end of the Moselle Cycle Path, where the Moselle meets the mighty Rhine. From here, cyclists can continue along the Lahn or Rhine Cycle Paths. As one of Germany’s oldest cities, parts of Koblenz belong to the UNESCO World Heritage.
